ANGUS MCMILLAN and Josh Schofield led City of York Athletic Club to the under-20 men’s team title at the North of England Cross Country Championships.

McMillan edged out Schofield for individual silver at Harewood House and, with strong support from team-mates Maurice Carlton-Seal (13th) and Tyler Hutchinson (26th), York dominated the team race.

A large group ran together on the first lap of two until Leeds’ Emile Cairess made a decisive break early on the second circuit of the 8km course.

Cairess clocked 27 minutes seven seconds for victory, while McMillan and Schofield were together for most of the second lap until the former pulled clear on the uphill section with just over a mile to go.

McMillan came home in 27-44 to Schofield’s 27-53, while Carlton-Seal clocked 29-06 and Hutchinson 29-54.

Club-mates James Tucker (32-25) and Harry Topham (33-27) came 50th and 58th respectively.

Following his win in the Yorkshire Championships, City of York’s Josh Dickinson came second in the U17 boys’ race.

Dickinson made several attempts to pull away from Morpeth’s Rory Leonard, but all were unsuccessful. Leonard made a decisive move with half a mile to go to win by around 50 metres, completing the 6km course in 20-05 to Dickinson’s 20-17.

Luca Parker (21-31) finished 15th, Kyle McLeay (23-27) 68th and Toby Antcliff (24-20) 83rd as York came fourth in the team event.

York’s Georgia Rothwell (24-05) came fifth in the U20 women’s event over 6km.

Finnian Hutchinson finished seventh in the U15 boys' race where he clocked 14-25 for the 4km course.
