YORK Indoor Bowls Club ladies did it again as they reached finals day in the national Yetton Trophy for the fourth time in the last five years.

York went into their quarter-final against South Forest as favourites and showed why as they made the game safe between the fifth and 10th ends when they scored 34 shots to the Mansfield outfit's nine.

South Forest conceded the game at 98-54 down with eight ends left.

At Thanet Road, Carol Banks, Pauline Armitage, Sue Kirkpatrick and Helen Wood led the way, as they have in previous rounds.

They lost only one end in the first 10 as they built a 21-5 advantage and, although they dropped a four then a five, they responded by winning all but one of the remaining ends to finish 29-16 victors.

Lynda Parker, Laura Clarke, Zoe Eagles and Helen Walker led 16-6 after 13 ends and, while they were pegged back to 16-14, they returned to winning ways and led 20-14 when the game came to a halt.

In Mansfield, Dot Kennelly, Betty Richardson, Melanie Brooke and Linda Harrison put in an impressive performance, only losing four ends throughout and winning 27-9.

Joan Jackson, Maureen Walker, Sheila Turpin and Carol Instone were involved in a close game, leading 13-12 after 12 ends, but thereafter won five of the following seven to be 22-15 up when the game was halted with two ends to play.

The semi-final and final will be at Rugby Thornfield IBC on Sunday, April 22.

York will play old foes Egham, whom they have beaten in three previous finals, with the other semi-final featuring Torquay United against Norfolk.

On Sunday, York IBC host the last of the Civil Service regional qualifiers as the triples takes place between 9.30am and 2pm.
