NEW club Topspin York stormed to the top of the York and District Table Tennis League first division after thrashing previous leaders York RI 'A' 9-1.

Joe Wright and Jonny Wooldridge were on top form both contributing three victories and then combining to win the doubles.

A treble from Martin Lowe was the highlight as Coneysthorpe 'A' edged out bottom team York RI 'C' 6-4. Ryan Hood played well for the railwaymen, defeating the highly-rated German student, Lennart Lukosch.

Despite a treble from Calum Goodwin, University 'A' were defeated 6-4 by York RI 'B', with Razvan Ababei, playing up from the second division, performing superbly to overcome the experienced Jeff Cohen. Joel Wight steered Coneysthorpe 'B' to a 7-3 victory over Clarence 'A'.

Division two leaders Clarence 'B' cruised to a 9-1 victory over Bootham 'A' with Steve Ayres and Alfie Potter on top form, and a treble from Mike Robinson was the highlight as Strensall 'A' secured an important 8-2 win against Ryedale@RI.

Tom Thorp was unbeaten as York RI 'F' earned a fine 5-5 draw against high-flying Bootham 'B', while a treble from Graham Hatfield allowed an understrength Clarence 'C' to share the spoils with Poppleton. Three wins from Mark Blackburn was the highlight as York RI 'D' and Shepherds 'A' fought out another draw.

A maximum haul from Frank Feng could not prevent University 'B' losing 6-4 to York RI 'E'.

Third division leaders Wigginton & Haxby 'A' started 2018 with a 7-3 win over Clarence 'D', Paul Halmshaw and John McLaughlin going untroubled.

Second-placed York RI 'G' had Paul Greenwood and Peter Smalley to thank as they beat Clarence 'E' 7-3 while a treble from Simon Prins made the difference as Strensall 'B' edged out BT 'A' 6-4.

A two-man Clarence CIU 'B' recorded a 6-4 victory over bottom team Clarence 'F', while Arthur Sorley and Marcin Ziolek starred as York RI 'H' defeated Shepherds 'B' 7-3.

Pete Corner was unbeaten as Clarence CIU 'A' beat South Bank 'A' 8-2. For South Bank Michal Slezak and Chris McLuskie picked up excellent wins over Jan Suchecki and Gary Bunce respectively.

In division four, new leaders Wigginton & Haxby 'B' whitewashed Clarence CIU 'C', and South Bank 'B' handed out the same treatment to Clarence 'G' to move into the second promotion slot. Elsewhere, Jim Stevenson starred at BT 'B' defeated Shepherds 'C' 7-3.
