NEW Earswick Ospreys fell 83-67 to North Cave Yellow in their final Yorkshire League Over-55s League game before the festive break, picking up four of the 14 points available.

The Ospreys had two winning rinks, both at home.

Gordon Fratson, Vic Reed, Alwyn Anderson and Alan Price got off to a flying start and led 16-1 after nine ends.

They only scored two singles over the next nine ends as the Yellows pulled the score back to 18-11 but the Ospreys rallied again and won the last three ends for a 23-11 victory.

Dave Booth, David Crane, John Taylor and Bob Barrett scored two fours in the first six ends to lead 10-4 but they lost the next four ends including dropping a five to go 13-10 behind at the half-way stage. They finished the stronger for a 24-17 win.

At North Cave, though, New Earswick suffered two defeats and fell behind on aggregate.

Pat Inwood, Gordon Johnson, Ray Mawson and Eric Cookson matched their opponents shot for shot with the scores level at 8-8 after 11 ends but they only picked up two singles and dropped a five at the 19th end on the way to a 22-10 defeat.

Vic Wooley, Dave Hutchinson, Vic Thompson and Kevin Potter were always just behind on the board but still in the game at 14-10 down after 15 ends. However, they lost the last six ends, giving shots away like Father Christmas handing out presents, to drop a six, a five and a four and 15 shots over the last three ends to go down 33-10.
