NEW Earswick Ospreys lost 100-62 to North Cave Maroon in a Yorkshire Over-55s Indoor Bowls League game played over two days, but at least picked up four points from two winning rinks.

At Cave, Gordon Fratson, Vic Reed, Alwyn Anderson and Terry Bellwood led 5-0 after five ends but lost the next seven to go 14-5 behind.

They won six of the next eight to level at 18-18 and scored a single at the last to nick a 19-18 victory.

Howard Darrell, Dave Hutchinson, John Taylor and Bob Barrett dropped 20 shots without reply over nine ends in the middle of their match and this saw them lose 30-11.

The home rinks therefore needed to play catch-up.

Pat Inwood, Gordon Johnson, Alan Price and Gary Stockton, with the help of a six at the third end, led 10-3 after eight but but Cave fought back and were only 10-8 behind after 10. Earswick won the next three to go 15-8 clear only for the visitors to score two fours to lead.

The hosts replied with consecutive threes to take the lead back at 21-16 and they held on for a 23-18 win.

However, Dave Counter, Dave Toms, Vic Thompson and Kevin Potter, despite opening with a three, trailed 14-6 after 10 ends and things only got worse as they fell 33-10.

New Earswick Ladies lost 88-61 to Hornsea in the Yorkshire Ladies' League, collecting only two points.

Their sole victory came from Lesley Nuckey, Maralyn Mead, Irene Warrington and Moyra Headley at home.

They got off to flier with the help of two fours and two threes to lead 19-5 after nine ends. Hornsea struck back with 14 shots over the next five ends including a six at the 10th to close the gap to 20-19, but, with the help of a four at the next, Earswick ran out 27-22 winners.

Also at home, Carol Thompson, Jennie Philpott Margaret Morgan and Norma Davies led 7-1 after six ends and stayed ahead until Hornsea scored a three and a four to go 13-12 up with three to play. Earswick won the next two to go into the last end two up but dropped a three to lose 16-15.

Both Earswick rinks struggled on the east coast.

Doramy Bellwood, Sue Adams, Margaret Pearson and Kath Sykes led 5-4 after seven ends but lost 17-9.

Lynn Page, Kath Hardcastle, Sally Domville and Majorie Watson were 4-4 after four ends but crashed 33-10.
