CITY of York Hockey Club's Ladies II suffered their second defeat in a row, as they lost 4-0 at Yorkshire League premier division high-fliers Selby.
Despite a strong start and good attacking play, the visitors soon found themselves a goal down.
City maintained positivity, and were awarded a penalty flick, but the strong shot could only find a post.
The visitors did at least receive some luck, with Jennifer Fitton blocking a Selby shot on the line that had eluded the keeper's line of sight.
In the second half, Selby increased their lead to 3-0 following a series of goalline scrambles, despite brave City defending.
City mustered only a flurry of attacks after this, and the hosts grabbed a late goal to seal the win.
City of York Ladies III comfortably saw off Chapeltown 3-1 at home, as they extended their unbeaten run to three games in Yorkshire League division one.
The home side started the game brightly and dominated the first half with excellent passing and movement off the ball.
Goals from Liz Armitage, Caitlin Rore and player-of-the-match Ruth Laybourn gave City a three-goal lead going into the break.
Chapeltown responded in the second period, and pulled a goal back from a quickly-taken free hit after a strong start, but afterwards rarely troubled the hosts, and City easily saw out the rest of the game.
