ACOMB men's first team surrendered their unbeaten record in the Yorkshire Hockey League second division - but their 3-1 defeat was an unfair reflection of the game.

Visitors Halifax 2 converted a right-wing cross after 10 minutes to take a deserved lead but after that it was all Acomb - only for Fax to net twice in quick succession in the second half, before the Tangerines finally broke their duck.

Acomb's possession and attack deserved much more. After the visitors' opener, the home team spent the next 25 minutes camped in the Halifax half only to suffer from wayward finishing and see the keeper make good saves when they did get efforts on target.

James Tindall had the best chance when one on one with the keeper but he shot wide.

The second period saw much of the same, with Carl Brindley a general in midfield, but Tindall wasted another glorious chance and Carrick Blacker also shot wide.

With 15 minutes remaining, the visitors netted twice against the run of play.

Ten minutes later, Blacker found Matt Dickenson, whose fierce rising shot found the net, but it was only consolation.

Luckless Acomb 2 likewise saw their unbeaten start to the season end as they lost 3-1 at Boston Spa 3 in division five north.

A strong Tangerines side looked to come out strongly but conceded from a penalty corner after five minutes.

Boston Spa doubled their advantage 10 minutes later but the Tangerines, spurred into action, hit back when an excellent cross-field pass was slotted home by Andy Smith.

Acomb then mounted a period of pressure but were foiled by the half-time whistle.

This pressure continued in the second half but the equaliser never came and Spa sealed victory with 10 minutes left.

Acomb ladies draw at Lindum 2 in Yorkshire Women's League division one.

With the team missing key defenders, captain Kerry Woods reverted to her centre-back position of yesteryear.

They took lead from a long corner swept into the 'D' by Georgi Wood. It was deflected into the air but coolly taken down by Jenna Allison, who then beat the keeper.

Great stick skills by newcomer Jess Slater saw Acomb drive though the midfield with Kiera Woods working hard up front.

The hosts kept attacking down their right but great interception play from Becci Flower helped break play down and strong clearances from keeper Sam Storr retained Acomb's lead at half-time.

Lindum won various shorts corners but tackles and blocks from Wendy Watson, Kerry Woods and Rachel Robertson meant none was converted.

However, with 15 minutes left, Lindum levelled in controversial fashion, the ball seemingly striking the attacker's foot before she put it home.

Acomb, rattled, tried to hit back, and had a great chance after a break by Vicky Wrigley. But, two on one with the keeper, her cross did not quite have enough to find Liz Harrison, the custodian getting her stick to it.
