ON-THE-UP York Vikings bagged their second successive win in the National League as they triumphed 106-89 away to Stockport Falcons.

After beginning life at this level with two defeats, the Vikings have now risen into mid-table in division four north after four games.

Head coach Rich Weeks said: “This was another good win on the road and saw some great team play.

"We need to work on our defensive effort and foul shooting but we are heading in the right direction.”

The Vikings had to come from behind, after having difficulty early on and falling 11 points down as poor defence led to easy three-point shots for Stockport.

However, the ever-improving Vikings dug deep after a timeout and clawed back the lead with some great team basketball as James Jackson and Jason Milner controlled the fast break with numerous assists to sharpshooter Russ Quinn.

The domination of inside play by man-in-the-middle Kev Bishop, plus the excellent shooting of Russ Quinn, took York further clear, the Falcons having little answer to the visitors' passing and movement.

There were 12 assists during the game from stand-in captain Milner and a team best so far this season of 36 points - including nine from 11 three-pointer attempts - from Quinn. The next top scorers for York were Adam Wright with 24 and Billy Cousins with 11.

The Vikings have this weekend off before hosting Blackpool on November 5.
