CITY of York Athletic Club’s men produced their best showing for 16 years in the Northern Cross Country Relay Championships at Graves Park, Sheffield.

York’s quartet finished seventh overall for the club’s best senior men’s result in a Northern event since 2001.

Josh Schofield led the team off, covering the two-mile route in 10 minutes 44 seconds to place seventh on the first leg.

Angus McMillan (10-47) was only three seconds slower as he improved the team to fifth.

Tyler Hutchinson (11-17) took York up to fourth before James Tucker (11-54) ran a solid final leg to secure seventh.

City of York’s women finished a creditable 11th in their event.

Becky Wilkinson (13-52) was edged out by the club’s 'B' team runner Helen Wilkinson (13-30) on the opening leg.

But Georgia Rothwell then improved the 'A' team 16 places on the second leg with a time of 12-44.

Katy Wood (13-18) brought them up to 11th at the finish, while Lauren Eadon (15-07) and Karen Wood (15-29) completed a 31st-placed result for the 'B' team.

York’s under-17 and U15 boys' teams both came fifth in category.

Josh Dickinson ran his usual strong leg to place second on the opening shoot-out in a time of 7-11, which turned out to be the third fastest U17s time of the day.

Luca Parker (8-06) and Kyle McLeay (7-38) then completed the U17 team on the last two legs.

Finnian Hutchinson (7-14) ran the fastest leg for the U15s, with Thomas Hayes (7-35) and Andrew Lawrence (7-54) completing the line-up.

York’s U13s girls’ team of Lottie Langan (6-30), Kathryn Clague (7-04) and Innez Khaddi (6-45) came 13th.
