MATT DICKENSON was the hero with a late winner as Acomb Hockey Club’s men's first team triumphed 4-3 at Ramgarhia I to maintain their undefeated record in Yorkshire League division two.

Carrick Blacker gave the visitors a great start, scoring a first-minute reverse-stick strike.

Play was evenly balanced for a while, until two quick-fire penalty corner goals for the hosts turned the game around.

After the break, two Matt Dickenson penalty corners put the visitors ahead again, but the hosts equalised with eight minutes remaining.

Man-of-the-match Dickenson had the final say as he completed his hat-trick.

Acomb Men II also extended their unbeaten run with a 3-1 win at home to Harrogate VI, but they slipped to second in Yorkshire division five north on goal-difference after Ben Rhydding V withdrew from the league - Acomb’s six-goal victory over them being wiped from the records.

The Tangerines' bright start was rewarded within 10 minutes through Tom Brown's strike.

Captain Jonny Brown doubled Acomb’s lead following a period of sustained pressure, but the visitors clawed one back with their first attack.

Acomb started the second half strongly, but were continually frustrated by the excellent visiting keeper, until Tom Whitfield scored from a goalmouth scramble 10 minutes from time.

Acomb Ladies relinquished top spot in Yorkshire League division one as they fell 3-2 at home to Sheffield Hallam in their first defeat of the season.

The visitors took a two-goal lead but the deficit was halved before the break as skipper Kerry Woods rounded the keeper with ease.

After the break, good forward play resulted in player-of-the-match Woods slipping the ball to Hannah Yoward to equalise.

However, Acomb’s defence was put under pressure from numerous penalty corners, and eventually succumbed when the visitors were awarded a controversial penalty.
