NEW Earswick Ospreys started their Yorkshire Over-55s League division two season with victory over Hornsea Hawks.
Earswick won three of the four rinks for an 80-61 win overall.
At home Jim Robinson, Dave Toms, Dave Hutchinson and Terry Bellwood got of to a steady start and had a 10-7 lead after 13 ends. They then picked up consecutive fours to increase their lead and eased their way to a 20-13 victory.
Bruce Dobson, Vic Wooley, Alan Price and Eric Cookson only led 11-7 after seven ends, despite picking up a four and a six, and the Hornsea rink slowly fought back to take an 18-17 lead with three ends to go. The Earswick team rallied and won the last three ends for a 21-18 victory.
At Hornsea, Gordon Fratson, Vic Reed, Alwyn Andeson and Gary Stockton picked up a five at the first end and led 14-1 after seven ends, dominating thereafter to win 23-8.
Dave Booth, Ray Mawson, John Taylor and Bob Barrett were the only New Earswick team to lose. They dropped a four at the first end and were always struggling to catch up. Trailing 21-10 with three ends to play, they pickled up a two and a four to cut the final deficit to 22-16.
