CITY of York Men's I hammered seventh-placed Chapeltown 10-2 at home to bounce back in style from last week’s North Hockey Men’s League division one defeat.

York now sit third in the table, one point off the top after four matches.

Man-of-the-match Jack Purrington opened the scoring as he capitalised on a mistake from the keeper, whose subsequent error allowed Alex Cockram to slot into an open goal for a second goal moments later.

Alex Lake put York three up, drag-flicking an excellent short corner into the top left of the goal.

Chapeltown pulled one back from a short corner, but a second from Cockram following good play by Purrington restored the gap and York's confidence just before the break.

Cockram completed his hat-trick, again played in by Purrington, to open the second period.

The visitors pulled one back before a rampant York put away five more.

Purrington broke the back-line and rounded the keeper on multiple occasions, first playing in Tom Feasby, then setting up Jack Fletcher for his first of the campaign, and then assisting Cockram’s fourth of the game.

In the closing minutes, Feasby and Fletcher scored a second each.

City of York II are seventh in the Yorkshire League premier division after losing 2-1 at Sheffield Hallam III.

City of York III came from two goals behind to claim a 3-3 draw at Sheffield University Bankers IV in division one, George Good’s double and Tim Butchard's strike completing the fightback.

City of York IV fell to their fourth defeat in a row in division two, losing 4-2 at home to Sheffield Hallam V.

Brian Ignjatovic in the York goal was beaten five minutes into the game following a sluggish start, and the visitors’ lead was increased soon after as a shot from a short corner was deflected into the top left of the goal.

The City side came to life after the second goal, and a Hamish Broadbent free hit from the 25-yard line found Bryce Tuckett near the back post to deflect the ball into the roof of the net.

The second period began with York on top again, and their pressure was rewarded as Sam Nicholson put away the rebound from a short corner effort.

Man-of-the-match Ollie Moore and David Catterall both had chances to take the lead, the latter also having a penalty appeal turned down, but Hallam scored two goals from clinical counter-attacks to finish off the match.

City of York V beat Brigg III 4-0 to claim their third win of the division three season.

The hosts opened the scoring through Mark Little’s first-time shot after a bright start, and two from Dutton gave them a three-goal half-time lead.

Goal number four came from Ben Foster, who dispatched Dutton’s square-ball from the top of the ‘D’ first time into the bottom left of the net.

The scoreline remained despite the home side having chances to embellish the victory, dominating play thanks chiefly to the industrious man-of-the-match Pete Richardson and Andy Kay.
