SIMON DYSON returns to action tomorrow (Thursday) in the Andalucia Valderrama Masters in the south of Spain.

The Malton & Norton Golf Club star sat out last week's Italian Open after missing the cut at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, when he finished seven over par, to continue a frustrating season.

The Alfred Dunhill Links takes in rounds at Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and St Andrews' Old Course, with those making the cut returning to St Andrews for the final day.

York-born Dyson had a nightmare at Carnoustie, firing 10 bogeys to finish well down the leaderboard at 10 over par. He fared better at Kingsbarns, notching four birdies when carding a two-under-par 70, and finished with a round of 71 at St Andrews.

European Tour stalwart Dyson, who has tumbled down the world rankings in recent years after suffering wrist problems, ended in joint-149th place, missing the cut by 10 shots.

Englishman Tyrrell Hatton, from Marlow, won the title when the qualifying players returned to St Andrews, finishing 24 under par. He followed up, too, with victory in the Italian Open at Golf Club Milano to pocket more than 1.5 million euros over the two weeks.
