MALTON & Norton GC ace David Hague just missed out on the Yorkshire Amateur Matchplay Championship title after losing the final at the Hallamshire Golf Club, Sheffield.

The tournament, played over four days, featured the top 32 amateur golfers in Yorkshire, with Hague progressing through four rounds before losing the final 3&2 to Hallamshire's Alex Fitzpatrick, who was playing on his home course.

In round one, Hague beat Danny Hartley, of Dewsbury, 3&2, and he followed up with a comfortable 5& 4 victory over James Swash, of Middlesbrough GC.

He then beat Alwoodley GC's William Shucksmith by two holes in round three, and had a similar victory at the last hole in his semi-final success over George Muscroft, of Otley GC.

His efforts continued a fine season for England amateur international Hague, who recently also finished as runner-up in the Yorkshire Union of Golf Clubs’ Amateur Championship at the Cleveland GC.

* SIMON DYSON, the Malton & Norton GC pro, heads to the North East this week for the British Masters supported by Sky Sports, at Close House GC, Newcastle, starting tomorrow.

York-born Dyson has struggling for consistent form on the European Tour in recent times after struggling with longstanding wrist problems.
