THE final match in IT Sports Mixed League division six resolved both promotion and relegation issues.

Wilberfoss snatched the silverware from David Lloyd after beating Dunnington, taking the title on games-difference.

Dan Jacques and Dinah Burke matched the 26 won by team-mates Charlie Dodds and Roz Latham.

Dunnington went into their match the following night against Appleton Roebuck knowing only a big win would save them, but Roebuck proved too good, led by the unbeaten Mark Baxter and Chris Howat, Steve Temple and partner Sarah Heron starting with a 10-2.

Division one champions Poppleton lost their perfect record to runners-up York-1 as the top tier concluded.

Wigginton finished third after winning their final two matches.

The penultimate match was a nail-biter against Fulford, but Ben Walker and Eleanor Bradshaw finished with a 10-2 to ensure the points. The same pair won 30 games against York-1 to complete the double.

Champions Wetherby Castlegarth completed their matches against Rufforth in division two, losing their perfect record to the side that will join them in division one.

York avoided a relegation battle after edging lowly Sherburn by six games, despite Sherburn's Tristan Gretton and Rachel Huggins winning 28 games.

Bottom club Bishopthorpe's final match was against fellow strugglers Sherburn, with both teams needing victory to avoid the drop.

Despite a final-round fightback, Bishops lost by eight games to go down, along with Poppleton, on games-difference

Wetherby Castlegarth finished with a flourish.

They beat runners-up Riccall by four games, then Mike and Emma Abel won 24 games, just ahead of Kevin Duckenfield and Rachel Butterworth, as they defeated Fulford, and they then beat Rowntree Park in their final fixture, with Marc Bickers and Jill Abel unbeaten.

Park had needed a draw or win to escape relegation but slip down.

The end-of-season presentation evening will be at Copmanthorpe on Friday, October 13.
