ST CLEMENT'S emerged as York C&IU Afternoon League champions after a four-way tie at the top of the table.
The quartet of teams - St Clement's, Holgate 'B', Holgate 'A' and Railway Institute - all finished with 10 points from their seven matches, each having won five and lost two, so went into play-off semi-finals.
Saints walloped Holgate 'B' to reach the final and met Railway Institute, who edged Holgate 'A' by one point.
Playing at West Bank Park, St Clement's scored five shots on the first end but RI levelled over the next two. St Clement's retook the three with a three but the Railwaymen then appeared to take control when winning three successive ends and, after a five at the 10th, they held a four-shot lead.
However, with John Cooper at third wood time and again turning losing heads into winning ones, Saints were not finished. They drew level after winning three ends on the bounce and then scored a five at the 14th.
RI won the next two but St Clement's ended with a flourish, scoring a two and a four for a 26-17 victory.
