YORK 1 wrapped up the title of the Fulford Ladies' Invitation Tennis League division one title with two victories in as many days.

They had a comprehensive win at Bishopthorpe and then edged title challengers Dunnington 57-51.

This is the Clifton Parkers' fifth title in a row and is a fitting tribute to former captain and regular Karen Retief, whose 16-year partnership with current skipper Kathryn Place closed on a high as they finished their last match unbeaten.

The top two in division two ended their season with victories – David Lloyd against Starbeck and Wigginton over Wistow, this despite a valiant effort from Racheal and Sarah Huggins, who netted 25 games.

Castlegarth’s defeat at Rufforth means they are now in a relegation battle.

Division three champions Pocklington cruised to a 64-44 win at Knaresborough.

Lisa Garland and Liz Taylor were in form as David Lloyd beat Fulford, leaving Lloyd battling it out for the second promotion place with Copmanthorpe, who overcame Bubwith 61-47.

Elizabeth Mallory and Jane Wallace only dropped one game as Fulford went on to demolish Bubwith and secure their division three status.

The two teams challenging for second spot in division four both lost – Heworth at champions Boston Spa and Bishopthorpe, by the tightest of margins, at Tollerton.

Lucy Collier and Sally Simpson bagged 30 games in Sutton’s 63-45 win over Appleton.

Division six champions Copmanthorpe completed the season unbeaten as they hammered Bubwith 83-25.
