IN A tense clash at the top of Division One of the Fulford Ladies' Invitation League, York-1 overcame Dunnington 64-44.

All three of York’s couples scored over 20 games to edge out the opposition and so close in on the title.

Belinda Turnbull and Catherine Baker netted 33 games for Poppleton, but it may be too little too late as they still failed to beat consistent Pocklington.

Bishopthorpe and Fulford were defeated by Castlegarth and York-2 respectively, so both are still fighting for survival, along with Poppleton.

David Lloyd claimed the Division Two crown after a comprehensive victory at Starbeck, Helen Larkin and Debbie Holman leading the way with 31 games.

Wigginton will join them in the top flight after comfortably beating Castlegarth.

Christine Edmond and Kate Lewis were in form for Rufforth as they defeated Wistow, and in doing so sent them back to Division Three after just one season.

Dunnington are struggling to maintain their second-tier status, this week going down 61-47 to Boston Spa.

Pocklington will be promoted as Division Three champions.

Louise Wilkinson and Andrea Bland bagged 28 games as the champions crushed Knaresborough 73-35.

Similar scores from all three couples facilitated David Lloyd’s victory over Fulford, leaving them in a battle for the second promotion place.

Copmanthorpe’s close victory at Bubwith leaves them hard on David Lloyd's heels, Laura Simpson and Rhian Scott’s 22 games proving invaluable in Cop’s win.

Boston Spa celebrated taking the Division Four title as one of only two unbeaten teams in the league.

Captain Anne McCreesh and Sandy Clough took 28 games in Spa’s victory over second-placed Bishopthorpe.

Anne Gray and Chris Vis were undefeated for Heworth as they overcame Tollerton, leaving them still in contention for promotion.

Elsewhere, Sutton gained valuable points as they edged past Appleton 56-52.

At the base of the table, Pat MacKeller and Hilary Brown bagged 24 games for Poppleton as they beat New Earswick.

Division Five table-toppers Wigginton suffered a surprise defeat against Fulford, who are assured of promotion and look likely champions, though Riccall are chasing them hard.

Michelle Hall and Sophie Marshman scored 28 games in their win at Cawood.

This defeat means Cawood will now be relegated, along with Dunnington-3, who went down 74-34 at Wilberfoss.

Copmanthorpe demolished Poppleton to claim the Division Six title.

Lynda Withers and Amanda Robson won 26 games as undefeated Cop eased past their second- placed rivals.

Sheriff and Dunnington-4 will both be relegated after losing out to David Lloyd and Bubwith respectively.
