STAMFORD Bridge have won the division ten trophy in the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League after rejoining the league this year.

They completed the double over Sutton-upon-Derwent, playing their re-arranged match the same week.

Brett Carter and Kim Lees finished with a flourish, winning 31 and 32 games, being well supported by Adrian and Natalie Muir.

The losses dented Sutton's promotion hopes, with Rufforth taking over second spot with a comfortable win against Wilberfoss.

Poppleton need just one point to retain their division one silverware after they had a big win against Fulford and remain one of three unbeaten teams in the league.

The runners-up spot is wide open after Wigginton's Ben Walker and Eleanor Bradshaw won 28 games against second-placed York firsts and Dunnington first team, giving Trevor Loten a seasonal debut along with partner Karen Mitchell to halt York seconds' push.

These results relegate Dunnington seconds and Heworth.

The top two teams in division two met and shared the points, despite Rufforth's James Edmond and Sue Yoward winning 26 against table-toppers Wetherby Castlegarth.

The rest of the teams are all trying to avoid relegation, with Poppleton and Bubwith having to wait for the teams around them to play after they both lost.

Bubwith lost to a strong Sherburn side, with the win lifting them off the bottom on games difference only after Bishopthorpe also won, led by James Field and Ellie Page.

They brought their opponents into the relegation frame.

Fulford lost the chance to grab the division three title, losing by just four games to closest rivals Sutton-upon-Derwent, with Sutton adding another win against promotion rivals Rowntree Park by just six games, with Chris Hobson and Cordie Cavill top scoring.

Neil Johnson and Margaret Whitehead were York's match winners against Park as they vie for divisional safety after bottom two Cliffe and Wigginton met, with the unbeaten Ben Storey and Lorraine Waudby ensuring the win.

Dan Poole and Bev Tebbutt top-scored for Wilberfoss as they beat David Lloyd but both teams are now waiting for the remaining matches to be played to find out if they will stay up.

Tollerton will be promoted from division five, with new pairing Josh Hunt and Ed Hope winning 29 games in beating Stillington, but this week's match against Rufforth will decide where the trophy goes after Rufforth had another good win, with Andy Ivel and Judith Evans ending with a match-winning 12-0.

Chris Hughes and Jackie Eccles won 34 games for York at Alne to drop the hosts into the relegation zone.

Division six is wide open after the latest results, with leaders Wigginton going down to second-placed David Lloyd to close the gap.

James Hunt and Jess Cawood led the scoring for Wilberfoss as they ended Appleton Roebuck's aspirations, but know that their match this week against Wigginton could be the promotion decider.

Relegation is still between four sides after Zak Los and Fenella Hobson led Sutton-upon- Derwent to a vital win against Cliffe, and Dunnington's Nick Bentley and Sara Grinnell top- scored, also against Cliffe.

There is no change in the order of division seven after James Chambers and Lisa Debenham kept leaders New Earswick at the top after beating Wistow, second-placed Bubwith shared the points with Sutton-upon-Derwent, and Heworth were edged out by Stillington to stay third. Copmanthorpe are still in with a say as to the final line-up with a win against Tollerton, led by Graham Garbett and Claire Fuller.

Sutton have an outside chance after Stuart Paver and Sally Simpson had another good match, also beating Tollerton.

Promotion from division nine is still between three teams, with David Lloyd in pole position after Phil Rigby and Joy Craig won 33 games as they beat Poppleton.

Appleton Roebuck are in the second relegation place after losing to Bishopthorpe, meaning that all of the re-arranged matches are vital to all of the team's futures.
