ON A rain affected weekend, David Lloyd defeated title rivals Wigginton in division two of the Fulford Ladies Invitation Tennis League.

Consistent scores from all three couples left Lloyd four points clear at the top and likely champions.

Meanwhile, Helen Halsall and Christine Noddings served up a 12-0 in Starbeck’s 78-30 win at Boston Spa.

Wigginton 2 logged a comprehensive win over second-placed Riccall, so will be promoted from division five – Sandra Burley and Catherine Field bagged 28 games in the 72-36 victory and one more point will see them champions.

Michelle Cossey and Joy Craig starred for David Lloyd as they dispatched bottom-placed Cawood, leaving Lloyd third with an outside chance of promotion.

Liz Powell and Tess Abbey netted 22 games for Stamford Bridge as they dented Rufforth’s division seven promotion hopes.

Elsewhere, Appleton got the better of Copmanthorpe, defeating them 69-39.

Captain Lizanne Southworth and Jill Rounce were unbeaten in Bubwith’s 71-37 victory over injury-hit Cliffe. That leaves Bubwith chasing hard for a division three promotion place and condemns Cliffe to a second successive relegation.

In division one, Sarah Dwyer and Siobhan Gilfillan top scored in York 2’s 57-51 win over high-flying Pocklington. That result virtually ensures the Clifton Park seconds' place in the top flight next season.
