HOLGATE WMC bounced back from their first defeat of the season to beat Selby in their top-of-the-table clash at West Park and extend their lead at the summit of the York Amateur Bowls Association League.

Wins for Peter Jackson, Alan Smith and Gary Lewington over Trevor Quainton, Tony Longfield and Peter Lund gave WMC a 7-1 victory, John Phillips salvaging a point for Selby.

Holgate WMC also whitewashed Shipton on Monday in a rearranged fixture to go 19 points clear in the standings.

RI Amateurs took advantage of Selby's defeat and RI Corinthians' free week to move into second place with an 8-0 whitewash of Rowntree.

Dunnington followed up their defeat of leaders Holgate WMC with an impressive 7-1 victory over Bootham, and Haxby Road had a similar result over bottom side Shipton winning 69.75 to 49.75 on points.

Dringhouses continued their winning ways, defeating Clifton 7-1 with a 79-45.25 aggregate success.

Hull Road Park went top of division two for the first time this season after a solid 7-1 victory over Minster.

Poppleton Road WMC hosted Scarcroft at West Park and had to fight hard to obtain a 4-4 draw.

Scarcroft held a five-shot aggregate lead with two rinks playing their last ends but Poppy Road took three shots on one and Keith Nelson bowled the last wood trailing the jack to pick up two on the other and nick a tie.

Poppleton kept up the pressure on the top teams with a 7-1 win over Osbaldwick, while Stamford Bridge beat Retreat by the same margin.

West Park suffered their seventh defeat of term and find themselves bottom after an 8-0 whitewash at Harrogate.

Catch-up games on Monday saw Poppleton beat Minster 7-1 and Hull Road Park continued their strong form with an 8-0 win over Harrogate.

In the Williamson Cup second round, Haxby Road had no problems getting past division two outfit Poppleton Road WMC with a 101-34 victory to move into the quarter-finals.

The battle between the RI teams saw the Corinthians convincingly overcome the Amateurs 62-33.

In the Freedom & Fellowship Cup, Dringhouses beat second division Scarcroft 97-62.

Meanwhile, Holgate increased their lead at the top of the York C&IU Evening League table to six points after taking a maximum haul from South Bank while second-placed Clarence managed only five points against Poppleton Road.

Railway Institute continued their winning ways and lie third two points behind Clarence but well ahead of the rest.

In the Afternoon League, unbeaten Holgate 'A' head the table with six points from three games with four clubs in joint-second place on four.
