CITY of York Athletic Club produced a solid third round display at leaders Wigan to keep pressure on the top two in the North of England Track and Field League division one.

COYAC finished third for the third consecutive round but are now just six match points behind second-placed West Cheshire.

The club’s women led the way with a total of nine victories while the men contributed five.

Christina Nick bagged an A-String 'double' with wins in the discus (45.52m) and shot put (13.44).

Sarah Parsons showed her versatility with a hat-trick of B-String successes in the hammer (36.71), discus (40.82) and shot (11.50).

Charlotte Stamp demonstrated her one-lap prowess by winning the A-String 400m (58.9secs) and 400m hurdles (63.9).

COYAC also claimed a 100m hurdles 'double' thanks to Chelsea Walker (14.0) and Josie Parry (17.3) in their respective A and B races.

Women’s team manager Becky Wilkinson completed a demanding A-String triple bill in the 800m (2mins 18.5secs) 1,500m (5.07.4) and 3,000m (11.52.0), finishing third, fourth and second respectively.

The women’s 4x400m relay team of Stamp, Ruth Brandon, Wilkinson and Walker finished just 0.6 seconds off the club record when finishing second in 4.05.7.

British shot put champion Scott Lincoln eased to victory in the men’s A-String contest throwing 18.25m - which was beyond the distance (17.82m) he needed to win the national title.

City’s men also won both the 400m hurdles races with Ben Schofield (62.3) and Jack Spence (63.9) taking the A and B spoils.

Ben Schofield clocked 11.39.2 to win the B-String 3000m steeplechase while his brother, Josh, went second in the club’s Under-20 5000m rankings when finishing runner-up in 15.38.9.
