YOUNG golfer Jake Sowden has moved a step closer to the IMG Academy Junior World Championships in San Diego.
Sowden, who plays out of The Oaks Golf Club at Aughton near York, won the Boys Age 13-14 category at the British Junior Golf Tour regional qualifier at Brandon Wood GC.
He parred a dozen holes and carded a birdie on the 13th to secure victory on a countback from Satria Cumming (Lingdale) with Manato Nakatani (Hendon) a further shot back in third place.
Sowden, a regular on the European Junior Golf Tour for the last three years, has now qualified for the National Finals which are held in October at Park Hill GC in Leicestershire.
The winner of that competition will qualify for the Junior World Championships whose previous winners include Tiger Woods and Ernie Els
The British Junior Golf Tour is running Junior Opens at John O' Gaunt GC in Bedfordshire (July 24) and Oxford GC (July 26).
