YORK golfer Simon Dyson produced his best European Tour performance for three years at last weekend's Dubai Duty Free Irish Open.

Dyson won nearly £13,000 after finishing 64th at the Portstewart Golf Club and now heads to the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open which starts on Thursday.

The Malton and Norton professional carded rounds of 68, 72, 75, and 70 to finish three under par in Ireland and his subsequent point return lifted him to 183rd in the Race for Dubai.

Dyson, a six-time former winner on the European Tour, has struggled for form and consistency since under-going wrist surgery two years ago.

He had missed the cut at six out of seven tournaments prior to the Irish Open and finished 152nd at the BMW International Open in Munich which was his lowest finish since joining the Tour in 2001.

The Scottish Open, which is being held at the Dundonald Links in Troon, is the fourth tournament in the European Tour’s new Rolex Series - a premium category of eight tournaments on the Race to Dubai, each with a minimum prize fund of $7m.

Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson, Rickie Fowler and Adam Scott are among the biggest European Tour stars taking part along with Americans such as Stewart Cink and Jason Dufner who are making the journey as part of their preparations for The Open Championship.
