WETHERBY Castlegarth and Rufforth have strengthened their grip on the two promotion spots in division two of the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League.

Leaders Castlegarth beat Poppleton, led by David Corbyn and Rachel Hill, after David Woon and Angela Wood won 33 games the week before at Bubwith.

Rufforth are just one point behind after wins over York and Bishopthorpe. Ed Ziegler and Kate Lewis were unbeaten against York and James Edmond and Sue Yoward top scored against Bishopthorpe.

Rowntree Park have taken the lead in division three after a two game win at Wilberfoss led by top scorers Nils Moroz and Kate Dance. Matt and Tanya Ward ensured Sutton upon Derwent won at David Lloyd to move into third place behind Fulford.

Unbeaten Kevin Davison and Sandra Robinson could not prevent Rowntree Park losing to new leaders Appleton Roebuck in division four. Park lost again by just 10 games at Dunnington for whom Kevin Todd and partner Denise Bolam, making her seasonal debut, were top scorers.

York have moved into third place in division five. Jake Lonsdale and Beth Barker won 30 games against Alne and Chris Hughes and Jackie Eccles won 28 games at Stillington.

A good overall team performance saw York win against second placed Rufforth to keep the division wide open. Josh Hunt and Ed Hope won an impressive 27 games for Tollerton who stay top after beating Cawood.

No change in division six where leaders Wigginton brushed aside Sutton upon Derwent - Adam Houghton and Carol Mackinder (31) outscored team mates David Rodgers and Helen Brown( 30).

Dave Morritt and Liz Taylor ensured David Lloyd stayed second with a big win at Dunnington and opened up a four point gap as third placed Wilberfoss lost to Poppleton with Reuben Young and Lauren Caley unbeaten.

New Earswick returned to the top of division seven despite having to concede games due to injuries in their win against Stillington. Bubwith move up to second after a 9-3 win against Copmanthorpe led by top scorers Liam Moore and Julia Barber.

Leaders Riccall lost their 100 per cent record in division eight after a narrow defeat at Wheldrake for whom Don Grant and Suzanne Straw won 23 games.

Wigginton are the new leaders in division nine after Ben Storey and Pauline Wreglesworth inspired victory against Dunnington. David Lloyd and Fulford are two points behind.

The top two teams met in division ten where leaders Stamford Bridge emerged winners against David Lloyd. Top scorers were Brett Carter and Kim Lees. Sutton upon Derwent moved into the second promotion spot with a big win against Fulford.
