YORK golfer Simon Dyson bounced back from his 'nightmare in Munich' with a promising first round display at the HNA Open de France.

Dyson produced his worst performance as a European Tour player last week when finishing 152nd at the BMW International Open.

But he was among the early pace-setters at the Open de France on Thursday when hitting birdies at four of the first six holes.

He eventually returned to the clubhouse on one under par - after hitting a double bogey at the 16th hole - and was sitting joint 29th in the field ahead of Friday's second round.

Dyson, a six-time former winner on the Tour, has struggled for the last two years due to wrist problems.

He has missed the cut at six of his last seven tournaments, excluding the Shenzen International in April where he retired after playing just 12 holes.

The Malton and Norton professional, 39, has dropped to 200th in the ‘Race for Dubai' and is now ranked 1566th in the world.

The HNA Open de France is the second in the lucrative new Rolex Series and is being played at Le Golf National, the venue for next year’s Ryder Cup.

England's Nathan Kimsey and Tommy Fleetwood have both been battling for the lead with scores of five under and four under par, respectively.
