CHRIS Quantock defeated former World Championship quarter-finalist Paul Nicholson to win his first match on the PDC European Tour.

The York arrows ace held his nerve to set up a last-32 clash against 2014 BDO world champion Stephen Bunting tomorrow afternoon following a 6-5 triumph in the Gibraltar Darts Trophy.

There were no breaks of throw in Quantock’s first-round tie, but Nicholson produced a superb 160 checkout to take the game all the way.

The Newcastle-born, Australian international then had three match darts in the deciding leg, but missed bull, double eight and double four, with Quantock keeping his composure to win through.

Quantock’s fellow Minsterman Richie Corner, meanwhile, bowed out by the same slender scoreline to Darren Webster.

Leading 5-4, Corner lost the last two legs to miss out on a second-round meeting with Daryl Gurney.
