A TEENAGE rower from York has been selected to represent Great Britain at a major international regatta in Germany this weekend.

Lucy Edmunds, 17, who rows for York City Rowing Club, will take part in the Munich International Junior Regatta.

Edmunds, who is studying 'A' levels in the sixth form at Huntington School, will be part of the GB Junior Rowing Team women’s quadruple scull and will also compete in a double scull at the event.

She was selected for the team after a week of trials at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham.

It is her second call-up after winning a silver medal last summer with the GB Junior Rowing Team girls’ quadruple scull at the Coupe de la Jeunesse in Poznan, Poland.

In March, she was also awarded the 'Young Sportswoman of the Year' award at the annual Active York Sports Awards.

"I’m delighted to have been selected to represent my country once again, it is a huge honour," she said. " I want to thank everyone at York City Rowing Club for their support and I especially want to thank my coach, Phil Jones, who has been with me through all the long, hard hours of training and trials."
