OVER 400 people took part in York City Rowing Club's (YCRC) Spring Regatta on the River Ouse last weekend.

Around 200 boats from across the North and the Midlands, ranging from single sculler to eights, raced from St Peter's School to York Boat House.

The regatta is one of the early outings in the season and the competition was fierce with rivals looking to secure an early season win.

York won 29 of the 52 races, Aberdeen won their pair, and Yarm School delivered a fine win in the girls junior eight.

The next regatta is on Sunday June 18 (Father’s Day).

Meanwhile, seven crews from YCRC represented Yorkshire at the recent British Rowing Junior Inter-Regional Regatta at the National Rowing Centre in Nottingham.

The boys in the J16 quad - Luca Machado, Harry Whitaker, Chris Aschman and Angus Gatus - won silver medals.
