Held at Nottingham Indoor Bowling Club, York beat Mote Park in the final following a semifinal victory over St Neots.

They got off to a good start against St Neots and led 10-3 on aggregate after four ends.

However, by the sixth, Joan Jackson, Sheila Turpin, Melanie Brooke and Carol Instone had slipped from 5-2 ahead to 6-5 down. They recovered and a fantastic winning run of seven ends which yielded 13 shots put them back in control and on their way to a 22-10 victory.

In the other rink, Dot Kennelly, Maureen Walker, Linda Harrison and Helen Walker led from start to finish in their game to win 22-12 giving the team an aggregate 44-22 victory.

Mote Park won the other semi-final 38-27 against Thornbury.

Mote Park clawed their way back into the game and it was 18-14 before York pulled away again with Instone’s team winning seven of the last eight ends to go from 10-4 down to win 18-12.

Walker’s rink completed an excellent performance with a three then a two to finish 24-11 which gave York the trophy 42-23 on aggregate.

Pauline Cooper and Lynn Tattersall, meanwhile, looked to be on their way to victory in the Ladies Langford Pairs Final when they extended their lead from 10-8 to 14-8.

However, Joan Jackson and Carol Instone hit back and, crucially for their game, picked up a five on the 16th end to take an 18-15 lead with two ends to play. Swapped singles gave the title to Jackson and Instone for the second year in a row.
