TOCKWITH'S Sarah Moore enjoyed a positive start to life in the Mighty Mini Championship with a front-row qualifying position and a second spot in the opening event at Silverstone.

Former Ginetta Junior champion Moore was returning to full-time competition with Agouti Motorsport after a year's absence.

In qualification, she finished second just 0.049 seconds behind team-mate Alice Hughes. In the process, the pair claimed a Mighty Mini and a possible UK first with an all-female front-row.

Moore made a good start in the opening race and was involved in a healthy battle with Hughes, Damien Harrington and Stuart Combes for first place.

However, in the final quarter of the race, Moore had to retire after being hit into the gravel by a rival competitor.

Things improved in the second race and, despite starting at the back of the grid, Moore passed five cars at the first corner on her way to tenth spot out of 19 by the end of the first lap.

Picking her way through her rivals, she found herself on the rear bumper of Hughes - who was making great progress at the front of the field - and a good scrap ensued with race one winner Harrington.

Moore eventually finished second behind Harrington, by a nose, with Hughes three hundredths of a second behind in third place.

"Apart from the opening race, it was a great first weekend in the Mighty Minis," said Moore. "Alice and myself had front-running pace all weekend and I am positive that we’ll be able to keep it going for the rest of the season.

"I’d like to thank everyone at Agouti Motorsport," she added. "It was a new challenge last weekend but their support and advice was invaluable."

The next event in the Mighty Mini Championship takes place at Anglesey on April 22 and 23.
