KEVIN LIDDELL and Dave Clayden were the big winners in New Earswick IBC’s in-house knockout competition finals - taking four and three trophies respectively.

Liddell firstly came from 5-0 down to beat Brian Gray 21-8 in the Gents' Plate Singles.

Alongside Clayden and Dave Sykes, he also took the Any Triples title, beating Mick Head, Vic Thompson and Colin Pickup 20-12, and alongside Clayden he beat Jim Pinder and Gary Jones 25-8 in the Any Two Wood Singles.

Then in the Handicapped Singles he beat Eric Cookson 21-9.

Finally, in the Men's Pairs final, Liddell and Clayden completed a double over Pinder and Jones as they beat them 24-13.

Liddell missed out on a fifth crown and Clayden a fourth, though, when Dave Sykes and Jones beat them 24-21 in the Australian Pairs final.

Clayden also missed out in the Mixed Pairs final as he and Claire Domville lost 25-8 to Jones and Majorie Watson.

Colin Pickup took the Gents' Singles title, pipping Bob Elliot 21-19 in a very close final, while Lorna Tordoff took the Ladies' Singles crown, beating Monika Morgan 21-14.

In a very good Over-60s Singles final, Sykes and Bill Waldie were tied at 20-20 in a first-to-21 contest. Waldie held two shots on the deciding end but Sykes drew the perfect winner to edge it 21-20.

Margaret Moss and Pat Walker took the Ladies Pairs title, beating Clair and Sally Domville 29-13.

All the cups were presented by Yorkshire and New Earswick IBC president Gordon Fratson.
