CITY of York Athletic Club’s Josh Dickinson helped England to a gold medal in the SIAB Schools International at Margam Park, near Port Talbot.

Dickinson continued his excellent cross country form to finish fourth in the under-17 boys’ race over 6.26km, clocking 19 minutes 34 seconds.

He was the third English runner home as they dominated the competition, with six athletes in the top eight.

The Home Countries International, also run on the same day, saw City of York’s Josh Schofield finish 14th in the U20 men’s race on his North of England debut. Schofield clocked 23-54 for the 7.1km course.

Meanwhile, clubmate Nathan Smith won the combined U17, U19 and U21 race in the first round of the English Junior Fell Running Championships at Cock Howe.

Smith has not raced much over the winter, but returned in style to beat Ilkley’s Euan Brennan by one second with a time of 16-10 on the North York Moors course.

Tyler Hutchinson, another City of York runner, finished seventh in 17-10, while his brother Elliott Hutchinson came 35th.

Further afield, City of York’s Stephen Kirk came third in the Canalathon 50k ultra race.

Kirk completed the towpath route between Rochdale to Sowerby Bridge in three hours 48 minutes 48 seconds to edge out James Young for a podium spot.

Also in action for City of York was Kyle McLeay, who finished 22nd in the North of England Junior 5k Road Race Championships with a personal best time of 18-00.
