ALL Saints U13 girls hockey team have beaten off competition from a number of local schools to win the area title at York University.

The team got off to an excellent start and Martha Meadows led the way in victories over Joseph Rowntree and Tadcaster Grammar.

They then faced strong opposition from an experienced Queen Margaret’s side but stepped up to the challenge and secured a 1-0 victory.

All Saints' next opponents were Bootham. This game was a fast paced affair where both teams were unable to convert short corners into goals.

Excellent defending by Caitlin Duffil and Kate Peneranda kept Bootham out. All Saints managed to turnover play in their defensive end and, with a quick transition from Eliana Soma and Abby Thompson-Tebb, the ball was transferred to their attackers Daisy Mutlow, Martha Meadows, and Tilly Kennedy for the winning goal.

Manor were now the only team standing between All Saints and the area title and Daisy Jackson's goals set up a 3-0 victory.

PE teacher Miss Seller said: "The girls were fantastic. They are a wonderful group of girls to coach. They are all very committed to training and enjoy playing together - displaying excellent teamwork on the pitch."

Three members of the side - Jenna Humbles, Martha Meadows and Tilly Kennedy - have recently been selected for the York and Selby area team.
