YORK Darts Promotions have announced a new event called 'The Champion of Champions' which will offer prize money in excess of £7,000 and raise money for charity.

Qualifiers for the event, which is sponsored by Synergy Cleaning, are taking place at 64 different pubs and clubs around York and the north of England.

The finals will be held at Huntington Working Mens Club, York on Saturday December 2.

With the prize fund provided by the sponsors, money from the £5 entry fee will go to Prostate Cancer UK and The Smiley Riley Fund, a non-profit making organisation which supports families whose children are undertaking chemotherapy.

"The Champion of Champions is a great opportunity for the darting community to get together," said YPD founder Neil Hart. "The event will provide local darts players with a chance to play for serious money as well as supporting local pubs and clubs and generating plenty of money for two worthy causes."

Played to a best of three leg format, the winner from each venue automatically qualifies for the finals.

Scott Darbyshire was the winner of last week's first event held at the 180 Club in Leigh.

Venues in the York area that have already agreed to host events include the The Mitre, Tramways WMC, The Holgate, and The Clifton.

Players can enter an unlimited number of qualifiers until they have qualified for the finals.

Players win £20 for qualifying and the first prize at the finals is £2,000.

An open tournament, also sponsored by Synergy Cleaning, will be held on December 1 with a prize fund of £1,270. Proceeds from the £10 entry fee will also go to the two charities.

The next event takes places at The Navy Club in Darlington on Saturday April 1.
