THE IT Sports Mixed Tennis League has a much-changed committee following their annual general meeting.

Jane Parkin stepped down as secretary, with Alan Wilkinson, also of Bishopthorpe, agreeing to take on the role, while Ellie Page, likewise of Bishopthorpe, is the new treasurer, replacing Claire Fuller.

Margaret Whitehead officially took over as chairman from Graham Cookman, who stood down last year.

The new president is John Linfoot, of York, who agreed to take over the role on the retirement of Malcolm Huntington.

Linfoot, meanwhile, presented a gift to Huntington, in recognition of his contribution to the league of more than 60 years. Huntington - who enjoyed an illustrious career as an umpire, officiating at Wimbledon, the Davis Cup and the Olympics - first proposed the idea to play league matches over 12 games. Previously, the league, which was formed in 1957, involved contests comprising two short sets and a long set, with some matches having to be finished the following night.
