YORK Ladies will be looking forward to the end of the North Hockey Women’s League season.

Still without a win after 20 games and now resigned to relegation from the premier division, COY suffered a 4-1 defeat against Leeds this weekend.

York II are enjoying better fortunes in the Yorkshire Women’s Hockey League and extended their unbeaten run to six games with a 2-1 home victory over Dewsbury I.

Trailing 1-0 at the interval, they equalised through Vicky Skilton before Kelly Hunter ‘nut-megged’ the Dewsbury goalkeeper for the winner.

But York III are now locked in a desperate battle to avoid the drop from the YWHL premier division after losing 3-1 against third-placed Brigg I.

Player of the match Abby Collins and Molly Petherbridge put pressure on the Brigg defence but York also breathed a sigh of relief when a Brigg penalty corner strike was saved on the line by sweeper Jenni Fitton. Jo Perryman put York ahead but Brigg fought back and won by two goals in the end.

York IV also look to be heading for relegation in division four after suffering a sixth consecutive defeat against fellow strugglers Skipton I.

Five points adrift of safety with only three games remaining, they lost 3-0 this weekend.

York V are now guaranteed to stay up in division four north but lost 2-0 away at Horsforth.

However, the same cannot be said for York VI who are now only one point above the relegation zone after a 9-1 hammering from leaders Pickering. City kept their heads up and never gave up trying and the result would have been even worse but for some good saves by goalkeeper Carla Metcalf. Holly Davies scored the consolation goal.

It was also a bad weekend for York VII who lost 8-0 at home to leaders Selby II in division five north.

Tadcaster Magnets I are sixth in the division one table after a goalless draw away at Lindum II.

Tadcaster Magnets II suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to mid-table rivals Harrogate V in division five north.
