A YORK City Baths Club swimmer has been selected to compete for Great Britain in this weekend’s Youth International Pentathlon competition.

Genna Suddes, a Year 11 pupil at Huntington School, will make her international debut at the event in Solihull today.

Suddes was selected for the GB team after two highly competitive ranking competitions that took place in January and February.

The Youth International is an annual fixture in the modern pentathlon series and athletes from across the world will compete in three disciplines - swimming, fencing and combined laser-run.

Suddes, 16, has been swimming with York City Baths Club since she was five years old and also trains with Yorkshire Pentathlon Club.

She has competed, for the past seven years, at the National Schools Biathlon Championships, in London.

In recent years, the Strensall-based teenager was invited onto the England Talent Programme and has since been on several World Class Talent ID camps.

Suddess, who will sit her GCSEs in a few months, trains for 10 hours a week in the swimming pool with YCBC, in addition to five hours a week in the other pentathlon disciplines.

Speaking ahead of her trip to the Youth International competition, she said: “I am very excited to represent Great Britain and feel proud of my achievement.

"I have dedicated so much time to my training over the years that it is a great feeling to have achieved something from it.”
