CITY of York Athletic Club star Scott Lincoln is celebrating a Great Britain call-up for the European Throws Cup.

The 23-year-old shot putter missed out on this weekend's European Indoors Championships in Belgrade, but has been lifted by selection for the March 11 and 12 outdoor event in Gran Canaria.

Lincoln is part of a 13-strong Great Britain squad - also including discus and hammer athletes - that will do battle with the best throwers from across the continent.

Paul Wilson, Lincoln's coach at City of York Athletic Club, said: "It's really good for Scott. This has been on the cards for him and we put it into our schedule.

"He had to show some form at the British Championships, and he did that by winning it.

"It's always nice to represent your country and this is another chance to experience throwing against the best in Europe.

"It will be good to be competing in the warmth as we've been training through Storm Doris and the wind and rain in this country."

The next target on the horizon for Lincoln is qualification for the World Championships in London in August, with the longer-term goal to seal a place at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.
