A GOAL from Kelly Hunter salvaged a point for City of York Ladies II against title-chasing Brigg I in the Yorkshire Women’s Hockey League premier division.

Trailing 2-0 midway through the first half, things were looking bleak for COY until a goal from Denise Shaw sparked a revival.

York missed a number of opportunities early in the second half and were then put under pressure but Faith Civico and Frances Livera shone in defence to keep Brigg at bay.

Great attacking play by Lily Rowntree eventually led to Hunter scoring the equaliser. Emma Dalglish was player of the match.

Liz Armitage scored twice as York III secured a creditable 2-2 draw at Dewsbury I.

However, it was not enough to break a winless run of 10 premier division games.

Abby Collins hit the post and and Armitage had a goal disallowed as York took the game to the hosts. But Dewsbury took the lead, against the run of the play, from a long corner.

York refused to buckle and Jo Perryman kept the ball moving out to Emily Cooper and Harrington on the wings. Armitage equalised before York fell behind again. Armitage salvaged a point after a pass from Perryman. York finished the stronger but were unable to finish their chances.

York I suffered a 7-0 defeat away at Whitley Bay and Tynemouth and are nine points adrift at the bottom of the North Hockey Women’s League premier division.

York IV dropped to the bottom of the YWHL first division after a 3-0 defeat at top-of-the-table Ben Rhydding III.

York initially raised their game with Lauren Susnjara and Merri Tomlinson impressive in midfield and Anna Good shining in attack. However, Ben Rhydding took command and scored twice before half time.

Although York defended solidly against a string of short corners, and goalkeeper Leeha Cox made a number of saves, the league leaders put another away to complete a 3-0 victory. Winger Tomlinson was voted player of the match.

In division four north, York V were no match for leaders Pickering who romped to a 6-0 victory at Huntington School. Goalkeeper Abi Tugwell was player of the match.

York VI suffered a third consecutive five goal defeat when they went down 6-1 at Horsforth I. Holly Davies, 14, marked her debut with the team’s consolation goal.

York VII were beaten 2-0 by Tadcaster Magnets II in division five north. Tadcaster Magnets I lost 2-0 to Huddersfield Dragons II in division one.
