NEW Earswick Falcons' struggles in Yorkshire Over-55s League division one continued as they lost 89-73 to Redcar, picking up only one point.

That sole score came from the away rink of Dave Imeson, Gordon Fratson, Mick Head and Bill Waldie, who drew 18-18.

They had led 9-1 after six ends but Redcar levelled by the tenth. Earswick later led 16-14 with three ends to go but Redcar scored a three to lead. The Falcons scored a two at the 20th to inch 18-17 up but Redcar equalised on the last.

Earswick's other away rink of Paul Murray, Alwyn Anderson, Graham Lockwood and Dick Osguthorpe led 7-0 after three ends but lost nine of the next ten to go 20-9 behind.

They won six of the last eight but were just held at bay, losing 22-19.

At Huntington Road, Bob Elliot, Dave Kermode, Eric Cookson and Ralph Tiplady scored a three at the second end but trailed 12-3 after seven.

They levelled over the next five ends but Redcar won six of the last nine for a 22-18 victory.

Dave Sykes, Barry Harrison, Tony Abbot and Barry Johnson trailed 13-0 after six ends but won four of the next five, including a six and a four, to pull back to 14-12. However, Redcar won six of the next eight, including a five at the 14th, to go 26-16 up after 19 ends en route to a 27-18 win.

New Earswick Ospreys also lost 84-70 to Featherstone Sharks in division two, picking up four points.

Dave Hutchinson, Bill Nuckey, Dave Moorhouse and Terry Bellwood were 5-4 down after eight ends in a low-scoring start before picking up six shots at the next two ends.

Featherstone replied with a five at the 11th to level but Earswick finished the stronger for a 22-17 victory.

Dave Booth, Vic Wooley, Vic Thompson and Brian Birch had the better of the first 15 ends and led 14-9.

Then the scoring exploded as the Sharks scored consecutive fives to go 19-14 up only for the Ospreys to reply with two fours and a three to win 25-20 win.

At Featherstone, Howard Darrell, Nigel Steels, John Taylor and Bob Barrett only scored five singles in the first 13 ends to trail 16-5. They closed the gap to 21-13 thanks to two fours but the Sharks won 23-16.

John Quinn, Dave Thompson, Bruce Dobson and Gary Stockton only scored seven singles in a 24-7 defeat.
