THE clash between the top two in the York Conservative Clubs Carlsberg UK Snooker League saw Bootham A lose top spot as Acomb A proved too strong.

Acomb won 5-2 to go three points clear in their attempt to win the league for the second year running.

Things did not start well for Acomb, however, as Tim Fillingham beat Dan Potter in the opening frame, making a 22 break to win by taking the last four colours.

Richard Lillie levelled the match when he beat Rob Barron. Jon Milner made an excellent 49 break as he defeated Andy Wynn, and Keith Thornhill (21 break) made it 3-1 to Acomb as he beat Barry Rankin.

Nick Marchant defeated Colin Robinson, but Jeff Brown managed to overcome Paul Holmes on the black to make it 4-2 to Acomb. Mick Borg completed a good victory for Acomb, beating Stuart Martel with a 40 break in his win.

Fulford A were in third place in the league and needed a big victory over their B team to maintain their challenge, but crashed to a 6-1 defeat.

Sam England managed the A team's only win, beating Phil Cook and making a 22 break in his frame.

Dave Coggan (21 break) started the ball rolling for B team with a very good win over Tom Lewis.

Tristan Owen beat Dave Atkin followed by Mohammed overcoming Sam Parkinson. Bob Smith (22 break) then beat Dollin Mercer and Dean Smith defeated Andy Marshall. Fabian Sueess completed the B team rout as he held on to beat Jamie Husband on a re-spotted black.

Bootham B had a hard-fought victory over Acomb B 4-3, taking the first two frames as Chris Thompson beat John Ashwell, and Pete Stewart (22 unfinished) beat Chris Nicholson.

Acomb took the next two with Steve Rodgers beating Ian Robinson and Kevi Ventress defeating Lionel Barnes.

Bootham clinched the match as Paul Mahoney beat Andy Morgan and Paul Powell beat Andy Stone. The last frame went to Acomb's Jeff Winter (20 break) who saw off Andy Proud (25 break).

Malton entertained Heworth A and turned on the style as they won 6-1, with Steve Beal and Dominic Spiteri leading the way for Malton as they beat Nick Dyson and Neil Wood in the opening frames.

Not to be outdone, Alan Sherry defeated Kevin Gall followed by Roger Ward getting the better of Mark Winskill.

Dan Pawson and Chris Atkinson overcame Keith Watkinson and Clive Whyte to make it 6-0 before Gary Douglas salvaged a point by beating Phil Hart in the last frame.
