CITY of York Men served up a much improved display against Formby I – but were still defeated 3-1.

The hosts took the lead with a fine solo goal from Alex Cockram. Quick thinking by Tom Feasby enabled to ball to reach Cockram, and he was able to pass the remaining three Formby defenders with ease, rounding the advancing goalkeeper and finishing confidently.

Formby were then awarded two dubious short corners in quick succession, which they were able to convert after mistakes from the City defence.

City worked hard to get further goals and controlled large portions of the game, but Formby scored a third breakaway goal before the end.

York IIs failed to pick up any points away to Bradford XIs and remain bottom of the league.

York conceded a goal within five minutes, but moments later York were awarded a short corner which Patrick Herriott put away.

However, with ten minutes left in the half Bradford managed to find the goal in a packed D.

York came out stronger in the second half but Bradford found the net twice to take a 4-1 lead.

Patrick Herriott pulled a goal back, which took the final score to 4-2 and York travelled home disappointed.

City IIIs entertained title-chasing Kingston-upon-Hull and it was the visitors who started the game on the front foot.

Hull's pressure was rewarded when they converted a penalty corner and it looked as though they might run away with the game.

However, both Rick Dewhirst and Ben Mould went close before Matt Tipper netted the equaliser 10 minutes before half-time.

The second half was very different, and Joe Lancaster's deft finish at the back post gave York the lead.

Outstanding work by City keeper Jonathan Doyle and defender Will Marshall saw off Hull efforts, as a disciplined performance resulted in a 2-1 win.

Doncaster were on top from the start and were 3-0 at half-time against York IVs.

The second half was more of the same, and York were denied a late consolation goal when a late strike by Matt Todd was ruled out as the whistle had gone for a short corner.

City VIs were well organised in their 1-1 draw at Bradford IIIs, and were unlucky to go behind just after the break.

Henry Wilson converted a chance to equalise midway through the second half after which the opposition missed a couple of decent chances.

York VIIs' match at Bradford IVs was cancelled, giving the City men a 3-0 win by default.

In their 'second game' of the weekend, the line-up recorded a fine 7-1 triumph over local rivals Tadcaster IIs.

City started brightly, taking the lead early on, and setting the pattern for the game.

Taddy were second best to everything and by half-time York were 5-1 up, with goals from Paul Rowntree (2), Jono Scutt, Hamish Broadbent and Rob Bradley-Consitt.

In the second half, Tadcaster lost their discipline and had two players yellow carded for dissent, leaving York to stroll to the final whistle, adding two goals in the process through Broadbent and Cameron Mackay.

Elsewhere, City of York VIIIs suffered heartbreak as Harrogate Vs claimed a 5-4 victory with a late strike from a controversial short corner.

The York goalscorers were Jack Allerton, Ali Birch, Zack Pierson and Zak Perryman.

York IXs played a double-header at the weekend – thrashing Bradford Vs 6-0 in their first encounter. George Trowsdale, Richard Tanner-Smith (2), Henry Cadogan (2), and Joe Stanley were on target.

Leeds Adel Vs were their second opponents of the weekend as York IXs were defeated 5-4 in a thrilling encounter. Richard Tanner-Smith, Rob Prentice (3) were the visitors' goalscorers.
