CITY of York Athletic Club celebrated an impressive double at the North of England Cross Country Championships.

Angus McMillan and Josh Dickinson were crowned boys’ under-17 and under-15 champions, respectively, after superb runs at Knowsley Safari Park.

In the U15 boys’ race, Dickinson took the lead on a long climb just beyond the halfway mark and pulled away to win by around 60 metres from Tommy Dawson of Leeds.

This victory came two years after Dickinson won the U13 title at Pontefract Racecourse.

Finnian Hutchinson continued his fine season with an eighth-place finish as City of York took silver medals in the team event behind Middlesbrough Mandale.

McMillan had the best run of his life in the U17 boys’ race, building on his second place in the Yorkshire Championships earlier in the month.

Feeling comfortable on the first lap, McMillan took the lead early on the second circuit to finish around 50 metres ahead of Merseyside’s Joe Wigfield.

However, the club were one short of completing a team in this age group.

Talented triathlete Sam Dickinson had a fine debut run for City of York to finish fourth in the U20 men’s race – a great performance against specialist runners.

Georgia Rothwell was the other runner from the club to place in the top ten, coming eighth in the U17 girls' race.

Charlotte Mason was the leading runner from York in the senior races as she came 36th in the women’s event.

Meanwhile, City of York’s Great Britain ace, Scott Lincoln, won the shot put with a mark of 18.70 metres when competing for England at an indoor meeting in Vienna.

Club-mate Becky Campsall also shone, finishing second in the 60 metres sprint in 7.51 seconds and third in the 200m in 24.59.
