JENNA Allinson scored a late equaliser against title rivals Hull University to keep Acomb Ladies top of the table.

There were just six minutes to play in the Yorkshire Women’s Hockey League division two clash when Allinson’s shot deflected off a defender’s foot and past the Hull goalkeeper.

Acomb, who had won five on the spin prior to the Christmas break, have now dropped five points in their last two games.

Everything had looked on course for victory when Kerry Woods opened the scoring with a reverse-stick strike after just a few minutes – but the Tangerines were up against a well-drilled defensive side who are now unbeaten in 12 games and only two points behind in second place.

Although Georgi Wood and Sean Klukowski controlled midfield and veteran Wendy Watson swept up well in defence, the visitors equalised from a penalty corner before taking the lead from open play.

Hull would have gone top with victory but Allinson’s goal salvaged a point for Acomb.

Matt Dickenson grabbed a late leveller as Acomb drew 3-3 with Leeds Adel II in the Yorkshire Men’s Hockey League division two.

The result leaves Acomb one point clear of the relegation zone but sandwiched between City of York IV and V in a potential battle for survival.

Acomb took an early lead when Dickenson scored after a pass from Jamie Robinson.

Robinson doubled Acomb’s advantage but fifth-placed Adel were no pushovers and scored twice when their speedy forwards gave Acomb’s defenders the slip. The home side continued to press and a number of dangerous crosses went unrewarded.

Adel took the lead for the only time in the game just before the interval.

Both sides worked their socks off and goalkeeper Craig Brown produced a man of the match display, supported by left back Simon Theaker. Dickenson’s goal salvaged a point in the closing moments.

Acomb II were beaten 4-1 by Halifax IV in division five north, with Tom Brown on the scoresheet.
