HEWORTH drew further clear at the top of the York Conservative Clubs Billiards Faber Shield league with a 4-2 victory over Bootham.

Darren Clark continued his winning run as he beat Paul Mahoney 150-100, making breaks of 63, 37, 40 and 35 to overcome his handicap and put Heworth ahead.

Carl De Pasquale won the next frame, beating Tim Fillingham 150-119, to make it 2-0.

Ian Robinson maintained his winning run in replying for Bootham, beating Gary Rogers. The latter, a former England international, made breaks of 73, 33 and 39 but he had a big handicap to make up and could not do so, going down 150-130.

Bootham then levelled the match as Colin Robinson got the better of Brian Birch 150-119, but Mark Winskill fought back well against Matt Smith to take the frame 150-140 and the aggregate point for his side. He included a break of 52.

Acomb had a good victory over Fulford, winning 4-2, with Mick Borg leading the way with a 150-30 success over Terry Ward.

Wayne Puleston had a big victory for Fulford to cut the aggregate, notching a comfortable 150-63 success over Richard Lillie.

However, Trevor Ventress played steadily for Acomb in defeating Bob Smith 150-129.

Alan Reed levelled the match as he beat John Ashwell 150-131 but Acomb led by 35 points on aggregate going into the last frame and Fulford's Robert Plant could not make any inroads as he faced an in-form Paul Holmes. The latter included a 38 break in a 150-73 victory.

The Player of the Year title race is wide open as Wayne Puleston (Fulford), Darren Clark (Heworth) and Mark Winskill (Heworth) have all played six and won six.

Gary Rogers, with a 94 break, heads the way in the highest break leaderboard.

Meanwhile, in the Slater Cup 'C' team pairs league, Acomb and Fulford are level at the top on 19 points each.
