WITH Bootham A out of action, Fulford A drew level with them at the top of the York Conservative Clubs Carlsberg UK Snooker League after defeating Heworth A 4-3.

Tom Lewis got Fulford off to a great start when he beat Neil Wood by making a break of 32 and playing some excellent safety play which restricted Wood to a 24 break.

The second frame, between Dave Atkin for Fulford and Kevin Gall for Heworth, looked like going the way of Fulford as Atkin was 25 up with only green to black remaining.

However, he failed to pot the green and Gall stepped in, clearing up the rest of the colours to level the frame. With the black re-spotted, Gall took it after good safety play from both players to level the match.

Fulford won the next three frames as Tom Wilson (21 break) beat Gary Douglas, Sam England beat Nick Dyson, and Jamie Husband defeated Keith Watkinson.

The team captains – Alan Reed for Fulford and Steve Burdett for Heworth – were drawn next. After some safety play Burdett ran out an impressive winner, making breaks of 32 and 64.

Clive Whyte won the last frame for Heworth, beating Sam Parkinson to make the score 4-3 to Fulford.

Acomb A and Acomb B are in joint third place, one point behind the leaders, after the B team defeated the A team 4-3.

Dan Potter (30 break) beat Nick Goodacre to put the A team one up, but Chris Nicholson defeated Keith Thornhill to level the match.

Paul Holmes beat Kevin Ventress to make it 2-1 to the A team, but defeats for A team players Jon Milner – by Andy Morgan (on the black) – and Nick Marchant, by John Ashwell, gave the B team a 3-2 lead.

The last two frames saw Phil Carlton (25 break) level the match as he beat Andy Stone, but the B team captain won the match when he got the better of Mick Borg.

Heworth B and Fulford B had a pretty level contest but with Fulford only able to play with six players this proved decisive, as the frames played finished 3-3 – meaning Heworth won 4-3.

Martin Johnson (25 break) held off Russ Shaw to put Heworth one up. This was followed by Andy Ogley beating Lauren Husband, and Pete Henderson defeating Lee Elvidge to make it 3-0 to Heworth.

However, Fulford then won the last three frames as Phil Cook beat Paul Rivis, Dean Smith beat Ian Strickland, and Bob Smith overcome John Sherlock.

Malton visited Bootham B and in a closely-fought match got home 4-3.

Alan Sherry led the way for Malton as he beat Ian Robinson. Other frame winners for Malton were Steve Beal, Dan Pawson and Chris Atkinson, as they beat Matt Smith, Pete Stewart and Paul Powell, while Bootham's winners were Chris Thompson, Paul Mahoney and Lionel Barnes.
