NEW Earswick Ospreys fell 89-58 to North Cave Maroon in the Yorkshire Over-55s League, claiming only two points.

Earswick's home rinks faired the better.

Gary Stockton, Alan Price, Dave Moorhouse and Bob Barrett trailed 10-7 after 13 ends but won the next five to take a 16-10 lead en route to a 17-13 win.

John Quinn, Bill Nuckey, Dave Thompson and Terry Bellwood, after scoring a two at the first end, notched only two more singles in the next eight to trail 10-4. They won the next six to take a 13-10 lead after 15 but then dropped a six at the 16th and, despite getting four back at the 18th, went down 20-19.

At North Cave, Earswick's run of poor form continued.

Bruce Dobson, David Booth, Pete Waddington and Brian Birch scored a four at the first end and were 11-3 up after eight but only picked up three shots in the last 13 ends and, in dropping a five, a four and two threes, went down 29-14.

Dave Hutchinson, Jim Pinder, Doug Carr and Vic Thompson dropped two fours a three to trail 16-7 after 11 ends and lost eight of the next nine, thankfully all singles, before dropping a four at the last to go down 27-8.

New Earswick Ladies also lost 89-69 to Selby in the Yorkshire League.

At Earswick, homesters Lorna Tordoff, Moira Ellis Carol Williams and Norma Davies fought back well from 13-6 down after eight ends against H Arundale to lead 18-16 after 16 but the Selby rink edged the last five ends to win 21-19.

Earswick's Jackie Toms, Kath Hardcastle, Sally Domville and Majorie Watson led their contest from the second end in a very close game against J Simpson and went into last with a four-shot advantage - but the Selby team remarkably picked up a five to win 19-18.

At Selby, Earswick's Denise Elliott, Margaret Pearson, Lynn Page and Kath Sykes won nine of the first ten ends against S Williamson, including a six at the first, to take a 19-2 lead.

Selby won the next seven to narrow the gap to 19-11 but Earswick had the better of the last four to claim a 24-13 victory.

Carol Thompson, Gemma Broadhead, Doramy Bellwood and Monika Morgan's match against C Birkinshaw's was almost a mirror image.

The Earswick side losing the first eight ends, dropping a six along the way, to trail 22-0. They briefly countered but won only four of the remaining 12 ends to go down 36-8.
