DONNA LYNES and Julie Stables gave Edinburgh Arms a chance of a shock victory at Fulfordgate - but the York John Smith’s Ladies League division one leaders eventually edged a 5-4 win.

Lynes and Stables, with a 65 checkout, put the visitors two up before Dawn Exton, Cara Britton, Michelle Britton and Jill Reed turned things around.

Stables combined with Claire Jamieson to narrow the margin to 4-3 but Michelle Britton paired up with mum Muriel to seal Gate's victory before Lynes/Amanda Bevan won the final game for Edinburgh.

Tracey Farmeary won the opening game for Tramways against visitors Bootham Conservative Club, for whom Nicki Johnson and Wendy Sullivan replied.

Lauren Farmeary, Jayne Janes and Natalie Farmeary then sent the club side into the pairs with a 4-2 lead, and the two Farmeary sisters, Natalie and Lauren, sealed match points.

Their mum, Tracey, paired up with Janes to add another point before Johnson/Anne Gibson narrowed the victory margin.

Priory hold second place after a resounding win at Leeman ‘B’, a clean sweep in the singles giving the visitors a 6-0 advantage before Laura Heward/Maggie Bedingham and Brenda Dawe/Vicki Capes reduced the deficit in the pairs. Ann Anderson/Babs Harrison added to Priory’s points tally.

Caroline Whittaker, Lynne Willstrop, Sarah Jackson and sister Jane Dobson gave visitors Burnholme the upper hand at Shoulder of Mutton ‘A’, Sandra Bruce and Anne Bass replying.

Jackson/Marj Pearson secured match points in the first pairs game, with Whittaker/Willstrop adding a point.

Division two front runners Severus ‘A’ reinforced top spot with a resounding 7-2 result at Clifton.

Linda Turgoose won the opening leg for the hosts but captain Glynnis Simpson kickstarted the club side’s winning run, Steph Barker, Carol Robson, Mavis Gallimore and Sue Clark also chipping in.

The hosts had to wait until the final pairs leg to double their tally, Alice Turgoose/Angela Fletcher obliging.

Severus ‘B’ had Angie Kaya, Sharon Mountain and Linda Goldsmith sending them into the pairs on level terms with visitors Clockhouse, for whom Rose Gray, Lisa Benton and Sammy Benton had scored.

Sarah Rankeillor/Lauren Tattersfield edged House in front, and, although Dot Sellars/Jan Stuart set up a decider, Gray combined with Lisa Benton to snatch victory for the away team.

Burton Stone kept the leaders in sight despite being taken to the wire by visitors Saddle.

The teams entered the pairs on level terms, where Liz Jackson/Sharon Nelson with a bull finish edged the visitors in front.

But mother and daughter Sandra Pallister/Linda Embleton set up a decider and colleagues Susan Barker/Marianne Deamer snatched victory for Stone.
