CITY of York Ladies III lost 2-0 at home to third placed Brigg I in the Yorkshire Women's Hockey League premier division.

Brigg put York under pressure from the start and it needed strong defensive play from Vicky Thornton, Jacqui Birch, and Jenni Fitton to restrict the visitors to just one goal before the interval.

York stepped up their game and solid play from joint players of the match Steph Pearson and Meg Harrington got the ball moving down the right wing to Molly Petherbridge and Liz Armitage.

But, despite the efforts of goalkeeper Bethan Williams, Brigg doubled their lead before the end.

York IV inflicted yet another defeat on division one strugglers Skipton.

After a goalless first half, Lucy Tate broke the deadlock. Abby Collins made it 2-0 when scoring on the reverse stick.

Bottom side Skipton, who had lost seven of their previous eight games, pulled a goal back but Caitlin Rore settled any York nerves when making it 3-1 from a short corner.

York V were beaten 4-1 by second placed Pickering in division four north. A strong Pickering side were soon in command, scoring three goals in quick succession. After the break, York improved and were unlucky to concede a fourth goal. Heather Macdonald grabbed a consolation.

York Ladies Over 35s travelled to reigning champions Bowden in the third round of the National Cup.

The hosts came out in force but York's defence held strong. Great saves from goalkeeper Julie Halford and clearances from Vicky Thornton and Jenni Fitton kept the ball moving out.

Bowden took the lead but York did not sit back and went onto the attack. Annabelle Howells-Lee scored an equaliser but Bowden stepped up the pressure and put two more away before halftime.

York kept up their game and Bowden were possibly flattered by a winning margin of 5-1.

Matches involving York I, II, and VI were all cancelled due to the weather.

York VII lost 4-0 against Tadcaster Magnets II at the Energise Sports Centre.

Tadcaster Magnet I's game at Huddersfield Dragons was postponed.
